Morphum Environmental was engaged by Mornington Shire Council to conduct a preliminary environmental investigation of a proposed coastal walking path around the base of the Eastern Sister headland cliff face in Sorrento, linking Sullivan Bay to Cameron Bight.

The assessment was carried out to judge the likelihood of preparation of an environmental effects statement (EES) being requested under the Environmental Effects Act 1978.

The report concluded that an EES did not appear to be required under Victoria state law.

Key deliverables:

The assessment report outlined the likely extent of any impact on local flora and fauna populations. It also provided recommendations on:

  • Mitigation of construction related damage through prior planning.

  • Promotion and protection of vegetation growth on the headlands.

  • Methods of promoting biodiversity through environmentally sensitive design and ongoing environmental monitoring.
