Breaking down the barriers to effective Integrated Water Management

Morphum Environmental’s approach to Integrated Water Management (IWM) planning begins by gaining a comprehensive understanding of your water networks.

Our approach to IWM ensures that your water networks are effective, spatially connected and the foundations are robust before we start designing your IWM strategy.

We follow a five-step process to examine your piped stormwater networks. This establishes fundamental data and enables an effective IWM plan before combining all other elements of IWM. We do this by using GIS network analysis, data integration, environmental engineering, and best-practise asset management.

Our five-step process includes:

  1. Drainage Data Discovery
We begin by gaining a deep understanding of the current state of your stormwater drainage data network and explore opportunities for robust data uses.

  2. Network Development
We connect the dots to create a municipal-scale connected drainage data network.

  3. Data Integration and Improvement
An advanced network understanding is developed by integrating overland flow paths and land use types.

  4. Network Analysis
Using advanced GIS tools, we support you to interrogate your network, (including upstream and downstream network tracing) through receiving environments including waterways, wetlands, dry ponds and eventually out to the final discharge point of the municipality.

  5. IWM Enabling Projects
These outputs enable innovative IWM projects including pollutant load modelling, WSUD location prioritisation, development services planning, sub-catchment delineation, WSUD asset maintenance prioritisation and more.

With fundamental data established, an effective IWM is no longer a pipe dream

Once we’ve undertaken the five-steps outlined above, fundamental data will be established and you’ll have an in-depth understanding of your water networks to then develop an effective IWM plan.

Morphum takes a collaborative approach when developing your IWM plan by working alongside you throughout the entire process. This ensures your IWM plan is fit-for-purpose and allows for continuous growth and improvement.

Our ability and experience in engaging with all council teams involved in IWM planning is critical to ensure ongoing commitment to the plan, and successful outcomes.

Morphum collaborative and experienced IWM team includes geospatial specialists, civil and environmental engineers, and urban water planners. Our team will deliver an IWM strategy that is interactive and versatile with a GIS-based online tool that can be used for ongoing IWM planning, monitoring, and reporting.

We can help you with the following:

  • GIS drainage data audit

  • Catchment-wide hydrological assessment

  • Catchment stormwater modelling

  • Water and contaminant balance

  • MUSIC modelling

  • Identification and prioritisation of WSUD and stormwater harvesting locations

  • Water supply and demand analysis

  • WSUD and stormwater harvesting design

  • Develop a GIS-based online tool for IWM planning, reporting and monitoring
